18th Century Italian Gouache Landscape With Castle

Beautiful 18th century gouache showing a landscape with figures an the foreground and an imposing castle on the crest of a hill in the center. Painted either an Italian artist traveling north, or a German who had studied in Italy. This is a Fine gouache in a giltwood frame with hand-painted mat. Most likely Rothenfels Castle. Written in pencil on reverse ‘Burg Rothenfels’. Burg Rothenfels overlooks the Main river between W√ºrzburg and Aschaffenburg. Its oldest parts were built circa 1170 or 1180, like the tower (Bergfried) and some external walls. Most of the extant buildings of the main castle were built between 1500 and 1525 Measures: 17.5 in / 44.5 cm wide 14 in / 35.6 cm high. 10.5 in / 26.7 cm 7 in / 17.8 cm site.
