1950's Vintage Saarinen Knoll Womb Chair and Ottoman

Chairish

Sorry, this product is no longer available on Dering Hall.

Early 1950’s heirloom quality metal black frame womb chair with slip on boot glides designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll. The shell has been re-foamed and recovered in NOS (new old stock) knoll fabric that is the exact match to the original knoll fabric that was on the chair (I was able to source 7 yards of the exact vintage knoll fabric, however, my upholsterer needed more yardage to do both the chair and ottoman, so he was not able to replace the fabric covering on the ottoman base and one side of the larger ottoman cushion (there is one “new” side). I took a photo of the two side by side, showing the slight color variation. On the shell, the seams are hand sewn as originally done when it was new from Knoll. The legs have chipping/scuffs, but I did not restore, as I felt it best to retain the orginial condition. On the bottom of the ottoman, you can see the thick heavy fiber resin shell (I have since covered with fabric), a stamp “460” embossed in the metal and 3 out of the 4 nails that once held the Knoll label in place.
