Paul Maas was a Belgian painter born 1890 near Brussels and died 1962, in Brussels, Maas was a Painter, darughtsman known for portraits, nudes, scenes with figures, landscapes, still-lifes. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including ‘The lady in black’ sold at De Vuyst ‘Old Masters, Modern and Contemporary Art’ in 2012. The artist died in 1962. Maas studied engineering in Brussels. He travelled numerous times to France and England, and to the Netherlands where he met Rik Wouters, a Belgian fauvist painter and sculptor who encouraged him to paint. ‘Café à Īle J Eble’ is signed original oil on canvas.
