1961 Original French Exhibition Poster - 13th Salon of Drawing and Watercolour, Musée d'Art Moderne
Date: 1961 Size: 19.25 × 25.25 inches Artist: Cluseau-Lanauve, Jean This original vintage poster was created to promote the 13th Salon of Drawing and Watercolour hosted at the Modern Art Museum of the City of Paris in 1961. The Salon was established in 1949 by a group of French artists who recognized a lack of opportunities to exhibit drawings. In 1954 they expanded their mandate to include watercolour and other under represented mediums and the Salon as it is known today was born. The artwork featured on this poster for the 1961 edition is by Jean Cluseau-Lanauve (1914-1997) who, in addition to exhibiting works, chaired the Salon from 1976 to 1996. First inspired by cubism and fauvism, Cluseau developed a unique personal style combining impressionist techniques with a taste for portraiture, interior scenes, and landscape painting. His works can be found in a number of French national and regional museums. This poster comes to us from a private collection. It is in very good condition for its age and has a small stain in top margin. It is a perfect addition to any home or office and is ready to be framed.
