Cactus" coat rack designed by Guido Drocco & Franco Mello in Italy, 1972 for the Italian manufacturer Gufram. The item available is part of a Limited edition of 2000 pieces; item number: 200 It is made in polyurethane foam and the surface is treated with green Gluflac washable paint. Signed #200/2000 Gufram Multiples ’86. The Gufram Cactus is included in several museum collections around the world and documented in a number of publications on decorative arts from the 20th century. Literature: Design of the 20th century, Fiell, p38. In the collection of: The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Pompidou de Paris, Tate Museum London. The subject of often ambiguous interpretations, Cactus is the icon of Italian design that has revolutionized the domestic landscape, by subverting the borders between indoor area and open space. Cactus comes as an ironic totem, and embodies the imagination and the humor of the design of the Seventies. Cactus comes to life in 1972 thanks to the genius of Guido Drocco and Franco Mello.
