1980s Memphis Peter Shire Original Brazilia Side Table

Sorry, this product is no longer available on Dering Hall.

This piece is from 1983 and is a lacquered wood table top with an all metal under base. It has been in our possession since then. It was manufactured by Peter Shire and is the model for the pieces manufactured by Memphis. Peter Shire studio was recently asked about it and this was their response. This table was created by Peter in the 80’s.  It is titled “Brazilia”.  It is the original design Peter did for Memphis, but they changed certain elements for their production.  Your piece had an anodized aluminum fin which looks absolutely gorgeous in the photo.  Peter is grateful that you took such good care of it.  The leg and base is metal, held to the table with tension wires.  A detail that Peter loves   Memphis did not want to deal with tension wire.  The proportions of the table are exactly as Peter designed, and desired.  If you make a comparison of the two tables, though the Memphis table is beautiful…your table is sublime.  The contrast of materials exactly what Peter wanted.   We are becoming aware of searches for pieces that Peter has done in the 80’s. What I do know is that Peter would never be able to recreate this table for what he did in  the 80’s.  —  Peter considers “Brazilia” a collectors item.
