Date: 1980s Size: 16 × 24 inches Artist: Tscherny, George This original vintage poster was created to promote the Poster Society’s annual conference and trade show, as well as an exhibition entitled “The Poster Then and Now”. The artist, George Tscherny, was born in Hungary and fled Germany with his family during the Second World War. They arrived in New York in 1941 and Tscherny served in the US army from 1944-46. He studied at the New School of Fine and Industrial Art as well as the Pratt Institute and established himself as a successful designer in the years that followed. He has twice served as President of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and was inducted into the N.Y. Art Directors Hall of Fame in 1997. This poster is double sided and shows some signs of wear where it was folded in six.
