19th C. Louis XV Style Secretaire Bookcase
An exceptional 19th c. Louis XV style scriban from the Loire Valley, made of solid walnut with pegged construction and mortise and tenon joints. The abbattant, or slant front desk, hinges open to reveal a leather writing surface, a small shelf and six dovetailed drawers. The doors of the bibliotheque above are screened with wire and open to two adjustable shelves (added at a later date). The cabinet below has paneled doors and provides ample storage, with a single interior shelf. Original hardware with working locks and keys. Beautiful wood grain and simple hand carved details.
