19th Century French Decorative Tea Set, Circa 1870s
This impressive-looking tea set dates from the 19th century, demonstrating elements of the Napoleon III style, whose emphasis on decorative details dominated the interior design at the time. The gold and black color scheme contrasts beautifully, and with the intricate detail on the individual pieces and the rounded, smooth shapes of each piece, the result is an imposing piece of decorative art. Not meant to be functional, the set is made from cardboard, boiled to become thinner and more durable. It is found in very good vintage condition.
