19th Century Parisian Butcher Block Table
Fabulous Parisian butcher block. circa 1860s. Incredible details such as original iron cleaver slot and sharpening steel, iron hinges, and carved apron. It has a metal name plate with the name of the proprietor mounted on the back “Etablissements Vergne et Cie/Villeneuve/Lot Paris” — a wonderful black and white image of the Parisian store on rue d’Allemagne can be found on Google. The butcher block also has the cabinetmaker’s name written in a lovely blue cursive on the back and on the inner lip of the top. It is in two parts: An extremely heavy top and table base. Wonderful curve from use, patina. An authentic and rare find.
