20th Century French Maison Jansen Hand Painted Secretary Desk

Chairish

Sorry, this product is no longer available on Dering Hall. For more information please call Chairish.

Very rare. Hand painted “fool the eye” embellishment on this Italian secretary purposefully leaves a false impression. Decoration a la Maison Jansen on front, both sides, desk interior, door backs, and drawers. When closed, upper doors feature faux “shelves” with books, papers, and decorative items upon them. Slant front desk facade painting portrays books, “nooks”, and other desk items. When open, shelves feature hand carved and gilded fretwork on edge. Door backs are decorated with “hanging” pin cushion and pipe. Desk interior surface features a pencil so easy you’ll try to pick it up. Surprises abound on ever surface of this charming piece. See pictures for further details. Includes original keys that lock doors, desktop, and drawers. Top separates from bottom for easy movement. MINIMAL patina and wearing of paint at key pressure points commensurate with age. Dimensions are 84"H x 33.5"W x 18.5"D. Comparable items have sold on other websites and at auction for $7500 (1st Dibs) to $56,000 (Lempertz, Austria).
