Abstract Oil Painting "Madrid 1961" by Important Spanish Artist Luis Quintanilla
Offered for sale is an abstract oil painting by Luis Quintanilla with sinuous pink and purple shapes creating visual movement This painting is part of the evolution of the artist from the artist cubist school years to more abstract forms. Luis Quintanilla (1893 or 1985-1978) was a well-known Spanish muralist and draftsman. Quintanilla got caught up in the politics of his time, spending time in prison and eventually forced into a long exile at the fall of the Spanish Republic in 1939. He was among a group of the top artists of his period and held a close relationship with Ernest Hemingway. He first lived in New York and then in Paris until a year after the death of General Francisco Franco when Quintanilla returned to Madrid, where he died in 1978. The painting has subtle textures and is presented in the original giltwood frame which shows some gilt-tarnish and age wear. Art, 39" W x 25" H.
