Abstract Portrait Painting by Peter Keil

Sorry, this product is no longer available on Dering Hall.

Original painting by Peter Keil. Acrylic on board. Artist signed lower right-hand side. Striking statement as a stand alone piece or part of a gallery wall! Peter Robert Keil (b.1942) Peter Keil was born in Zullichau, Pomerania (now Poland). After losing his father during WWII, Keil and his mother struggled their way to West Berlin where they settled and he discovered his interest in painting. In 1954, the East Berlin-based painter Otto Nagel became his mentor and taught him craft skills and painting techniques. Keil’s formal education was at the University of Arts in Berlin between 1959 and 1961, where he met a number of artists who also helped mold his artistic sensibilities and later became influential artists themselves including Georg Baselitz, Eugen Schönebeck, Markus Lüpertz and Joachim Schmettau. Once the Berlin wall was built, Keil lost contact with his mentor and started spending more time abroad. During his time in Spain, he befriended Joan Miró and was a frequent visitor to his studio. He also established studios in Paris and London before returning to Berlin. Starting the 1960s, Keil has exhibited widely throughout Europe, in Israel and the US
