Antique Egyptian Revival Patinated Bronze Sculpture of a Woman

Sorry, this product is no longer available on Dering Hall.

The standing female is lost in thought as she pauses, leaning on the vase she has resting on a plinth, perhaps waiting for a chance to fill her vase with water from the well. An exquisitely cast work by an unknown sculptor of the period, her dress is a carefully rendered garb with clear Neo-Grec influence stylized with angular etchings of Egyptian inspiration and relief-castings along the lapel and stripes. It flows over her body with such natural form, the extensive folds of the garment pulling perfectly against her canted leg and stretched arms. The plinth is beautifully cast with a single hieroglyph over an open-winged eagle, the footing faceted with stylized lightning and the top of the plinth angular and stepped. The sculpture is finished in it’s original and complex dark brown, light brown and red-oxide patinas preserved under wax. An exceedingly fine piece and a rare find on the market. Literature: “Bronzes: Founders and Sculptors, Vol. IV”, Berman, 1980, p. 969, f. 3729 Condition Report: Some minor patina wear. Trace oxidization and light grime in crevices.
