Antique Persian Heriz Serapi Circa 1890 10'2 x 11'
The almost square shape of this rug is so well complimented by the design. The ivory ellipse surrounding the central field accentuates the squarish shape helped by the deep blues in the corners and the lightness of the main border. Serapi is the name given to the finest rugs from this area. Serapi is not a place or tribal name; rather it is a market term derived from Serab-i, meaning “of Serab”. Serapi’s are a distinct Heriz region style, with more large-scale designs and most importantly, they are more finely woven.
