An outstanding banister-back armchair in old black paint.
The chair boasts an excellent carved crest above five turned and split spindle banisters, flanked by turned stiles ending in urn and ball finials. The arms have nicely scrolled hand-holds and the back is canted. An old rush seat in very good condition is supported by block and turned legs joined by stretchers with bulbous turnings. The ball feet have been restored. Circa 1760, New England.
