5 Tricky Windows Solved With Beautiful Shutters

Whether designing for a heritage building with arches and large bays, new builds with sharp angles, or negotiating privacy issues in overlooked properties, window dressing is an important part of any interior design scheme. With the use of shutters becoming an ever-increasingly popular trend, we glean some valuable advice from Decorex exhibitors The Shutter Shop on the solutions available for challenging window shapes, and some hints and tips on how to make the most out of any window when considering shutters for dressings.

1. Arched Windows. Show off the curves of your windows! It is becoming increasingly popular to dress arched shaped windows with shutters. Shutters are the perfect solution as they are custom made making a striking feature of the window’s architecture.

2. Triangular Windows. Unsure how to dress a triangle shaped window? Have shutters cut to fit. This makes the most of the unusual shape and maximises the light let in.

3. Bay Windows. Flutter your shutter louvres and show off the full bay without needing extra room for curtain material. Whilst curtains only function open or closed, shutters offer flexibility with controlled privacy, light and shade.

4. Large Window Expanses. Bi-pass (sliding) or bi-folding tracked shutters are a great choice for large window expanses such as swimming pool patio doors or glass kitchen extensions, allowing space and light to flow from the outside in.

5. Overlooked Windows. If your property is overlooked or on street level and you are looking for privacy without blocking out all the light, then opt for pretty Café style shutters. These are fitted to the lower half of the window only allowing light in through the upper half.
