11 Chic Guest Bedroom Ideas

With the holiday season here, it's the time of year when we play host to family and friends from around the world. With that in mind, we browsed our archives for 11 unique, serene spaces for guests to rest their heads, from monochromatic to midcentury cool.

For this ski house in rural Montana, interior designer Gary McBournie used a color palette of blues, oranges, yellows and reds to reflect the scenic views and changing light of the surroundings. In this guest room, McBournie adapted a watery blue fabric from Rose Tarlow Melrose House to use as a wall covering. The headboard is upholstered in Manuel Canovas' Belem stripe fabric and complements the blue of the walls. The white lamps with brushed gold bases are from Christopher Spitzmiller while the walnut bedside table is from the Gary McBournie Home collection. See more of the home here >

Amelia Carter Interiors used a soft, sophisticated color palette and glamorous details in the redesign of this home on London's prestigious Sloane Street to turn the existing space into one that is warm, elegant and inviting. The large guest bedroom at the front of the home features blue upholstery and bedding as well as an elegant full height silk headboard. Blue is also carried into the bedside tables, which are made from a dyed high-gloss birdseye maple veneer. See more of the home here >

For this estate in Virginia, interiors firm Lucas/Eilers Design Associates combined European architectural elements found on travels abroad with custom furnishings and warm textures for a home that reflects the owner's classical tastes and desire to entertain. The home includes three guest bedrooms, each of which have a slightly different look. Here, campaign furnishings and a tented bed hanging give the room a masculine feeling. Interior designer Donna Mondi used eye-catching artwork, bold color and fashionable accents to create a glamorous look in her newly-redesigned apartment in the heart of downtown Chicago. The guest bedroom is dramatic yet warm and welcoming with a deep teal color on the walls. Mondi custom designed the bed and nightstands and added a large floor mirror from Julian Chichester to make the room feel larger. See more of the home here >

For this vacation home in East Hampton, interior designer Amy Lau paired a light, crisp color palette with stunning midcentury furniture to give the contemporary home a warm and stylish look. This guest room has a romantic Caribbean-inspired look with a custom chaise covered in Pierre Frey's tropical Mauritius linen and white caned bed by the French Bedroom Company. Interior designers Lisa Frantz and Lydia Marks of Marks & Frantz Interior Design mixed color and pattern with traditional decor to give this new vacation home on Nantucket a stylish look and make it feel as if it had been around for generations. In this upstairs guest bedroom, preppy plaids from Brunschwig & Fils are combined with tropical toile wallpaper from Lee Jofa. Julia B bed linens and striped roman shades tie it all together to create a stylish room. See more of the home here >

Designer Kara Mann oversaw the complete renovation of this cottage in Nantucket, using natural accents and a color scheme of primarily black, white, and navy for a nautical inspired look that doesn’t feel overly beachy. Designed for a single father with three children, the end result is a clean-lined contemporary home with a focus on comfort. In the guest room, a framed vintage nautical flag hangs above the bed. The bench is by Caste, while the lamp is by Robert Morrissey. See more of the home here >

This vacation home in Big Sky, Montana's exclusive Yellowstone Club was extensively remodeled by Lisa Kanning of LKID and contractor Big Sky Build to give it a more modern aesthetic that fit in better with the mountain surroundings. The tonal textures of the wall coverings in this guest room are enlivened by a boldly patterned kilim rug from JD Staron. The Urban Electric Co.'s Gwenwood wall-mounted lamp and Lyton Table Lamp provide lighting around the bed. The pendant light is from Hubbardton Forge. See more of the home here >

For this lakeside house in Minneapolis, interior designer Andrew Flesher worked closely with the owners, one of whom is the architect of the home, to create a stylish space that embraces the outdoors and natural materials. This guest bedroom features a woven rattan bed from McGuire, a lounge chair from Knoll and vintage table lamps. The butterfly pillows are by Design Legacy. See more of the home here >
