Behind the Design: Santa Barbara Design House & Gardens

This week, Dering Hall heads to the California coast to visit the Santa Barbara Design House & Gardens, which opens September 13 and features the work of DH Designers Mark Weaver and David Phoenix.

The redesign of this 6,000 square foot, six bedroom shingle style estate was led by developers Joanie and Dennis Franz and the Junior League of Santa Barbara in coordination with media sponsors Traditional Home and California Homes. With its 1.62 acres of rolling hills and oak trees, this former avocado farm is perfectly suited for the first Design House in this idyllic community.

Tapping some of California’s best designers to participate, the developers found the gold standard with Mark Weaver and David Phoenix. Weaver, a native of Southern California, brings his more than 30 years of design experience to the home’s dining room and foyer while David Phoenix, named by House Beautiful as one of America’s Top Young Designers, is in charge of the master bedroom. Tickets for the Show House are now on sale. Visit for more information.
