Founded just two years ago, London-based Ailanto has already made a name for itself in producing nature-inspired fabrics and wallpapers in unique colors. Cofounded by Tuscany-based Amanda Ferragamo and Australia-based designer Keeley Green, the firm develops fabrics and wallpapers that can suit homes of all types, from urban apartments to country residences. And both partners know a thing or two about creating stunning homes—Amanda and her family renovated Il Borro, a medieval village in Tuscany that's now an acclaimed Relais & Chateaux property.
Each Ailanto pattern is hand drawn and designed by Amanda, and each has a story to tell, whether it's about the stunning landscapes of Tuscany or the subtle intricacies of the botanical and cultural worlds. All the brand's fabrics are produced in the Lake Como region of Italy to the highest standards, while wallpapers are printed in the U.K. The collections bridge traditional and modern designs, offering a unique and timeless solution to spaces of all styles. See some of our favorite Ailanto collections below.
The Juggler is a whimsical, intricately painted design that’s symbolic of something much greater than itself. At the top of the design, the female music conductor represents the music that our lives move to; just below, a male juggler is tossing balls in the air that represent all of our varying responsibilities. A mischievous monkey, elegant tiger, and beautiful parrots complete the tableau, telling us that life has more unpredictable plans in store for us than we can foresee. The Juggler is available in wallpaper and fabric; shown above is Delightfully Elegant Fabric. Quietly Enchanting Fabric and Midnight in the Garden Fabric are also available. Coordinating stripe designs are also available, as described below.
Inspired by Rome’s umbrella pine trees, which were originally planted to shade soldiers marching down the Appian Way, Pratomagno Pini is a striking organic design available in wallpaper and fabric. Shown above is the dramatic Fig Purple; also available in other shades including Charcoal & Putty, Sage Grey, and Burnt Orange.
Designed to accompany the Juggler collection, the Broad Not Bored pattern is a classic striped design that can fit in with any room type. Colors include Blue on Mushroom (shown) and Turquoise on Blue; it’s also available in a thinner striped design called Stripe Me Skinny, which is available in Plum and Pumpkin.
The Carciofi Collection comes in wallpaper and fabric and celebrates one of the great foods of Italy—artichokes. “Artichokes are such a wonderful delicacy in Tuscany, enjoyed particularly in the springtime,” says Ferragamo. “In terms of inspiration, this design came about after picking a thistle when out walking in the Pratomagno hills. I couldn’t resist after noticing the wonderful vibrant colors.” Shown is Aqua & Olive wallpaper; also available in shades including Charcoal & Putty and Forest Green & Magenta. The coordinating prints include Leaf Me Alone (available in colors including Blue & Magenta, White & Grey, and Purple & Olive) and Broad Not Bored (available in options including Plum on Beige, Purple on Olive, and Grey on Grey).
Carciofi Leaf Me Alone
Part of the Carciofi Collection, Leaf Me Alone continues the theme of the Carciofi print with a special focus on the symmetrical, geometric design of the artichoke leaf. These designs can work on their own or in coordination with the rest of the collection, available in both wallpaper and fabric. Shown above is Purple & Olive.
