Gary McBournie's Ocean View

“My love of the ocean draws me to many projects near the water,” says interior designer Gary McBournie, who fittingly maintains offices in three coastal locales: Boston, Palm Beach, and Nantucket. Since founding his eponymous firm in 1993, McBournie has applied his casual but refined design sensibility to a wide array of projects, from an airy, masculine loft in Boston to a luxury Mediterranean-based motor yacht to an old fisherman’s cottage in Nantucket that’s been resurrected as a seaside fantasy in blue, white, and weathered wood. Most recently he’s unveiled a new line of bold and bright fabrics, called the Antilles Designs Collection, that bring a happy dash of Caribbean color and style to any interior. When it comes to designing interior spaces, whether beachside in Antigua or landlocked in Los Angeles, “I like to mix old and new to give the sense that someone has lived a life, and not just ordered a room from a catalogue,” McBournie says. To that end, he’s picked 13 products from Dering Hall that add, as he puts it, a vibrant je ne sais quoi to any room.
