Inside a Glamorous Palladian Estate in Palm Springs by Anthony Cochran Design

In the 1960s, set designer James McNaughton created a luxurious villa in Palm Springs that represented the peak of Californian glamour, right down to its residents—the home’s second owner was George R. Hearst, and his niece, Patty Hearst, recovered from her 1974 abduction as a guest at the mansion. Renovating the home for the post-modern era, famed interior designer Anthony Cochran of Anthony Cochran Design collaborated with Coachella Valley contractor Stoker Construction and two visionary clients to restore the home to its former mythological status. The redesigned home recalls both Ancient Rome and the Golden Age of Hollywood, two historical periods remembered for their decadence. Sprawling interior pools are studded with recreations of historic statuettes, while glamorous, mid-modern silhouettes define the surrounding patios and secluded interior rooms. Read on for our tour of the eclectic estate, San Simeonita.
