Inside a Hamptons Beach House with Vintage Style

In this East Hampton cottage, interior designer Joe Nahem of Fox-Nahem eschews the typical pastel palette and a nautical theme found in many coastal homes in favor of colorful art and playful accents. Mixing contemporary and vintage furnishings, Nahem creates a comfortable beachside space with a unique personality.

Art is the focus in the entryway with a large painting by Richard Prince greeting visitors at the front door. Knotted rope art is displayed on the hanging shelf beneath wall sconces by Alexander Noll.

The great room is anchored by two sided dry-stacked fireplace furnished with an exceptional collection of contemporary and vintage classics. The artwork, from left to right, is by Dirk Skreber, George Condo, and Hernan Base. The floor is a stunning reclaimed antique oak.

This casual seating area in the great room uses punches of brilliant color as the design scheme. Timeless rattan seating, a classic Barcelona coffee table and a painting by Aya Takano play up the bold and fun interior design.

A driftwood table lamp and custom designed Fox-Nahem sofa, along with a grouped collection of Ruud Van Empel photographs, give special interest to the sitting nook in the great room.

The dining area features a classic Saarinen marble top table, which is surrounded by woven leather seating and illuminated by a vintage hand-woven rattan chandelier. Andy Warhol's "Jackie" painting hangs as a splash of art in the space.
