Approached by bicoastal clients, who craved a more permanent place to settle, Emily Mackie of Inspired Interiors helped her clients combine possessions from homes in San Francisco and New York into their large, new house in Ravenswood, Chicago. The clients had a unique request: they wanted Mackie to pair their inherited pieces with new “modern classics,” beautiful objects that would hold value over time and inspire future innovations in design. In search of the crème de la crème, Mackie traveled to Maison&Objet, a furniture show in Paris, and sourced from Portuguese and Italian designers who have long been invested in quality of craft.
“When you make something timeless and decadent, it sells because it’s irresistible,” Mackie says, explaining why certain, high-end brands concern themselves more with honing their craft than targeting the current market.
