It is often the surprising element—whether it's lighting, upholstery, or accessories—that brings a room alive, and makes it truly memorable. Here, nine of our favorite brands who are bringing a fresh eye and a hands-on approach to creating distinctive, stand-out pieces that will enrich any home.

 From their shop on a small farm in Stoughton, Wisconsin, Henry Royer and his daughter Avery create by hand sleek, futuristic consoles, dining, and side tables in steel, wood, and stone. 

Founded in Los Angeles in  2004, ARTLESS creates clean, uncluttered craft furniture—sofas and sectionals, benches, bookcases, beds, wall units, and tables—in of-the-moment shapes that are  built to last.

Los Angeles-based glass-blower Nate Cotterman crafts elgant blown-glass vases, bar accessories, and lighting that merge simple forms with elegant resolution to powerful effect.

Acclaimed London designer Martin Brudnizki and Nicholas Jeanes formed And Objects in 2015 to bring their distincitive, glamorous yet romantic sensibility to an array of products that range from lighting to bath fittings to dining and side chairs.

Founded in Berkeley, CA, by industrial designer, jeweler, sculptor (and former ballet dancer) Michael McEwen, McEwen Lighting Studio brings brawny glamour to an innovative array of pendant lighting.

West Knoll Collection, which is based in West Hollywood, creates an eclectic and distinctive line of classic and contemporary seating, side tables, lamps, and unusual accessories that are all bench-made in the United States.

 

Owned and operated by Benjamin Gillespie, a Philadelphia-based lighting designer and former carpenter, OVUUD merges next-generation lighting technology with locally sourced woods to create contemporary, minimalist floor and desk lamps and pendant lighting.

T.H. Solid Wood Furniture Inc. has been making classic, elegantly detailed consoles, beds, nightstands, and bookcases at its studio in British Columbia for more than 30 years, with the aim that each piece becomes an heirloom. 

Based in Westport, CT, Astele makes a broad array of sleek luxury furnishings and lighting from high quality materials such as bronze, leather, brass, concrete, and natural stone.
