On Wednesday, October 3, the Decorators Club kicks off its 2012-2013 Lecture Series Modern Visionaries – Women of Design with a presentation on design pioneer Vanessa Bell.
Led by Dr. Alexandra Gerstein, the Curator of Sculpture and Decorative Arts at The Courtauld Gallery in London, the first talk will explore Bell’s participation in the Bloomsbury Group, her role as co-director of the Omega Workshops and how she brought her bohemian, individualized approach to her designs.

Continuing throughout the fall and next spring, the Decorators Club will feature women who have made a tremendous impact in their respective design fields, from landscape architect Beatrix Farrand to master jeweler Suzanne Belperron. The topic of Modern Visionaries seems particularly apt for the Decorators Club, which is America’s oldest women’s organization dedicated to the interior design profession and furthering interior design education. In addition to the lecture series, the club holds an annual portfolio competition for New York’s interior design students, awarding scholarships to winners. Dering Hall is a friend of the lecture series, and several DH Designers are members of the Decorators Club, including Victoria Hagan and Elissa Cullman.
Below is a schedule of the lectures with more information about each topic. All lectures begin at 6:00 pm and are held at the New York School of Interior Design, which is located at 170 East 70th Street in Manhattan. Tickets are required and can be purchased here.
