Tour a Chicago Townhouse with a Contemporary Look

In this four-story family townhouse in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, design firm Lichten Craig created a contemporary yet classic feel with fresh color and elegant detail.

For a living room that was modern, relaxed and comfortable, the design team devised a palette of soothing grays, accented with dark and bright green for a look that is fresh and laid-back.

Designed for a client in the publishing industry, Lichten Craig turned an alcove off the living room into a library conducive to quiet reading and reflection yet central within the family home.

The kitchen includes a large seating area and den, perfect for entertaining guests before dinner or relaxing as a family. Three sets of French doors open onto a terrace overlooking the gardens beyond.

The client wanted their four-story townhouse to be a comfortable yet stylish setting for their family. The detailing throughout is contemporary yet classic. The dining room, for example, is papered with a Trove design, to add an element of poetry, scale and grace to the room.

The powder room features hand painted wallpaper. The graphic effect of the stripes is softened by the imperfections from the hand painting technique, while the pattern creates the perception of depth within a small space.

This guest bedroom is comprised of a neutral palette of charcoal, beige and white. The geometric pattern of the pillows provides a graphic element within this calm room.

When designing one of the children’s bedrooms, Lichten Craig looked once again to create a space that was bold and original yet effortless and comfortable.

Designed for a young teenager, this bedroom features bright colors and a bird motif that is at once youthful and chic.
