When a young, professional couple built a starter home in Vancouver, they never planned to fall in love with it. However, the simple, elegant design took advantage of the square footage — the couple had originally dreamed of building a larger home once they found the perfect lot — and after moving in, the pair decided to stay indefinitely. Much of their passion for the space owed to the work of Victoria McKenney, owner of Enviable Designs, a design firm based in Vancouver. McKenney designed the kitchen and bathrooms completely, from the lighting scheme to the selection of the materials, and decorated the entire home.
Inspired by New York brownstones, McKenney relied on classic design elements, including rich walnut and traditional mouldings, and matched these with contemporary accents like geometric patterns and innovative furnishings to create a compelling blend of old and new. "Even though this was a brand new home, we wanted to create a sense of age and character," says the designer. Discover the transitional home here.
