One of the simplest design elements is the line. What I love the most about the use of the line (or stripes) is the elongation effect. A series of lines forces your eye in a particular direction, either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Stripes can be used in a variety of ways in design. It can be painted on a wall or used on a fabric. A personal favorite is a black and white awning stripe. It is timeless, sophisticated and works with almost any decor and color scheme.

You can also use materials to created a striped look. A louvered wall or screen is a amazing yet subtle way to incorporate stripes into your space, yet achieving the same elongating effect.

Here are just a few of favorite images! Enjoy!
