The Power of One

I’ve always been a fan of using one fabric on everything in a room, I try to do it often in design projects. There is something instantly chic about this treatment, however, I’ve never thought about doing a whole house in a single fabric until I saw a project in Southampton by Justine Cushing in House Beautiful, photographs by James Merrell - it was love at first sight! I think it was for House Beautiful too – they put it on the cover.

Justine used bowood, a green floral chintz, by Colefax and Fowler. It wasn’t planned she says, it just so happened that she liked it and started to upholster everything in it once she got into the project. She loved how the fabric brought the green from the gardens outside inside - I love it too!

I thought it would be fun to mix in a few gardens with boxwoods I have on one of my Pinterest boards, well, I should say all boxwoods… and let’s just pretend that the fabric “bowood” could possibly have been called “boxwood,” it does tell a story - the beauty and harmony of a single fabric inside and the simplicity and elegance of all boxwoods outside - the power of one! Enjoy!
