Chicago hidden gem unveils impressive all-sculpture show!

The question at heart is" "What makes a sculpture a sculpture?". In a new exhibition, this is something that The University of Chicago's The Smart Museum, sets to answer. An ambitious undertaking for sure, this exhibit, which opened last week, saw a evolution of the museum's 9,000 square feet of gallery space. Pieces dating back to the museums first modern sculpture acquisitions in the Joel Starrels Jr. Memorial Collection are on display.
You can imagine the challenge set forth by completely transforming a museum... much planning was done in order to ensure that this switch flowed smoothy and a lot of thought went into securing the right storage facility. The new sculptural pieces were brought in to be a part of "Carved, Cast, Crumpled". It's certainly an exciting exhibition for which the process was much more than meets the eye.
