Gio Ponti - Renaissance Man of Exceptional Design

Gio Ponti started as a young architect in Italy, where he was heavily influenced by the neo-classical Novecento Italiano artistic movement. In 1928 Ponti established the Domus Magazine, a magazine still published today that focuses on Architecture, Design and Art. The entrance into the magazine industry did not stop Ponti from designing. In the height of the industrial revolution, Ponti began to teach the furniture industry how to create machine made furniture, while previously a single crafts man had to create furniture. Ponti created a fabulous line of home goods, including some of the most outstanding mid-century chairs available today. As Suzanne said, “We are fond of his larger upholstered chairs as they lend a firm Mid Century Modern aesthetic and knowledge to a contemporary interior…”
