Sebastian Brajkovic's Lathe Series

We were thrilled to host design guru and the new Director at Carpenters Workshop, Cédric Morisset, in our Chicago office recently. He shared a preview of Sebastian Brajkovic, a Parisian-based Dutch designer who explores the notion of ‘turning’ through his sculptural furniture. He is exploring notions of movement, expressing speed in stillness (much as Futurists like Umberto Boccioni expressed in bronze), with a nod to traditional turned furniture production. It’s so important to note that while conceptually the work is spot on, Brajkovic is also respecting the most esteemed history of craftsmanship. The impeccable embroidery of Jean Francois Lesage is certainly honored as one can see in the upholstery details of Brajkovic, and he is now achieving intricate precision through digital completion. It’s an exquisite body of work, collectible, iconic pieces with consistently fresh and new ideas added as of late.
