The Whitney’s Final Shows

As the Whitney prepares to move, the wires have been hot with articles about the Jeff Koons exhibition. But there is another final show at the Whitney’s current location that is turning our heads. Shaping a Collection: Five Decades of Gifts will run through October 19. The show honors the generosity of the Whitney’s patrons through displaying the many gifts that have grown the permanent collection of the museum, beginning with the extraordinary founding gifts of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney in 1930. Mrs. Vanderbilt Whitney gave more than 500 works to found the museum. Over the course of the last 50 years the Whitney’s collection has grown from 2,300 works to over 21,000, in large part due to donations (nearly two-thirds of the Whitney’s collection is comprised of gifts from patrons). This honorary show is certainly worth a visit! Click here for more information.
