Where to Go on a Windy Day...

As everyone knows, Chicago is known as the "Windy City." Luckily for us, this means that there are plenty of days to marvel in the beauty of the MCA Plaza's new exterior installation at the MCA, now through October. English artist Yinka Shonibare's "Wind Sculptures" are 20 feet bolts of fabric that billow magnificently in the wind. These bolts are inspired by ship sails (appropriate, huh?) and the patterns are derived from Dutch wax fabrics. If you think there's a bit of an "African" Batik look to the bolts, it's because there is. Shonibare spent his adolescence in Nigeria which clearly heavily influences his work!
