Britain’s Tom Dixon has been wowing the world of design since the 1980s with his inventive and creative take on everything from furniture to tableware to lighting. His take is fresh and very now. His style takes the best of tradition and reworks it for today’s edgier world. And you can certainly appreciate this with todays feature – the Flask light pendant – it feels like something out of the industrial/automotive world ratcheted up for the sophisticated interior.
Flask is actually two pieces of hand-blown glass. The top is a smoky hood that serves to discretely hide the inner workings of the light all while defusing the glare. The lower portion of the light pendant is a ridged, beehive like molded glass that gives the decorative light pendant a soft, warm glow.
This design draws on Dixon’s love of laboratory equipment, and while not quite for the mad scientist, the light is more for the chic home. I like the mixing of textures and shading with this piece. I also like how the light ripples like water through the diffuser.
