"Doria" Glass Chandelier, Germany circa 1960

Carl Moore Antique’s Stock# BAE61
“Doria” Circular Glass Chandelier, Germany circa 1960. The design awareness of using glass to replicate the beauty of ice and snow was a particular strength of the Doria company who specialized in lighting using a technique known as “Eisglas”. In this fixture the blown glass cylinders seen on the perimetre are each suspended from an internal hook and each cylinder has a unique pattern across its surface that refracts the light from the interior. When looking up at the fixture the view is of a shallow bowl encases in tiny shards of glass that create a pebble like appearance and spread out the glow of light. The frame is brass and the fixture is suspended from a cylindrical support that may be altered in height. There are six lights concealed within the fixture for standard base bulbs to give maximum light level options. The large diameter of this fixture and its excellent condition ensure that it will be a focal point in any interior.
