Early 19th c. Italian Bust of Caesar Augustus
An Italian 19th century white marble bust of Caesar Augustus on a circular waisted socle. A replica of a Roman first century B.C. original which sits in The Vatican Museum, thought to represent the young Augustus (Octavian) before he became emperor in 27 B.C. In the early 19th century, a series of busts were made for collectors and became common additions to British country estates.
