Early 19th Century Antique Sea Captain William Champlin Portrait School of Goya Oil on Canvas Painti
FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL US! This is a fine antique portrait of Captain William Champlin. Oil on canvas laid on board. c. 1800. He is a ruggedly good looking gentleman, as you can see from the photos; purported to be around twenty-five years old at the time. The painting itself measures 27 1/4″ × 22″ and is displayed in a simple but elegant gilt wood frame measuring 30 3/4″ × 25 1/2". Unsigned. The provenance on verso is written by the Captain’s grandson who recounts the portrait as having been painted by someone from the School of Goya in Spain. He eventually had the painting fully restored in 1912 (please see photos). Condition: Fully restored. You can still see some fine craquelure and some abrasions to the painting. The frame shows some wear, commensurate with age. Layaways available with 20% down and 3-4 months to pay; possibly longer if arrangements are made in advance. Thanks for stopping by.
