"Figolu I", by Nina Dietzel
Deconstructing di Suvero is a photo series based on the large-scale sculpture of Mark Di Suvero. Dietzel uses double exposures to reveal a multitude of perspectives of the same object. The result is both the action of di Suvero’s work, with an added element of cubist forms.
For Dietzel, working with an old, analog Hasselblad allows for the deceleration of time, making room for a meditative process by which a deeper relationship between the photographer and her subject can be cultivated. This slow, sustained engagement offers a refreshing counterpoint to the deluge of harried, digital snapshots with which we are inundated daily, a poignant reminder that if we don’t take the time to slow down, we may just miss the magic.
