French 1940s Steel and Brass Cylindrical Shaped Bracket Lantern
French 1940s steel and brass cylindrical shaped bracket lantern with white liner attributed to Gilbert Poillerat. The French decorator and wrought iron craftsman mastered the art of chiseling bronze and iron. Inspired by historical forms, he imagined elegant objects and furniture that differed from the common trends. His chiseled works presented airy and delicate features that looked upon the 17th century and the Empire period, answering his motto: ‘iron is not an accessory, it is an ornament.’ Not only will he be one of French designs’ key figure, will he also be part of History. In 1947, indeed, he conceived the unique copy of the Necklace of the Grand Master of the Order of the Liberation, attributed to the Général De Gaulle.
