Set of 12 French Creil earthenware faience plates with printed fruits, insects, and foliage of blue tones on a white ground, 19th century. The Creil Montereau signature was synonymous with elegant family dinnerware for European connoisseurs during late 18th & 19th centuries. The joint savoir-faire of both English and French craftsmen during the 2nd half of the 19th century was the secret of its success and was recognized with gold medals at numerous Expositions Universelles of the time. This set’s printed dÃ©ecor is named “Pomone” after the ancient Roman goddess of fruitful abundance. Also available are some serving dishes.
