Details: “Concentric Episode Series, Bone 24.01.1”, 2001 mixed media on wood panel 24 × 24 × 2 Excerpt from 2003 John Berggruen Gallery press release " The upcoming exhibition features Kris Cox’s Concentric Episode Series and Curtain Series, in which he continues to explore minimalist abstraction. The Concentric Episode Series works are symbolic abstractions of time and memory, created by a process of applying multiple layers of pigmented putties on wood panels with grids that have been chased into their surfaces. Those grids, which appear irregularly throughout the layers of putty, are a metaphor for memory, while the concentric, multichromatic rings are symbolic of time…. Kris Cox, a San Francisco resident, earned his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island in 1977. He received grants from the E.D. Foundation in New York and the National Endowment for the Arts. His work is included many private and public collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Oakland Art Museum."
