Large framed oil painting on canvas by SF Bay Area/Northern California artist Gertrude Wieble Mihsfeldt. Painting entitled “Island Group”. Painting is absolutely stunning and vibrant. Gertrude Wieble Mihsfeldt b.1903- 1989 Gertrude Mihsfeldt studied and obtained her M.A. from UC Berkeley in 1929. After marring she moved to the Sacramento area where she became very active in the local art scene from the 1940s-1980’s. Mihsfeldt was one of the ten women who started the Creative Arts League in conjunction with the Crocker Art Museum and was instrumental in putting together the California Craft exhibitions starting in 1952 which promoted important members of the California craft movement such as Robert Arneson, Ruth Rippon, Viola Frey, Fred Ball and many more. Mishfeldt’s works are part of the permanent collection of San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as well as the Crocker Museum. She exhibited at the De Young Museum, 1936; San Francisco Art Association, 1936-44; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939; Northern Calif. Arts, 1939-57. The pieces available are from the collection acquired from the estate of the artist’s son.
