A signed “talking table“ by French Art Nouveau master Èmile Gallé, the table top decorated with a marquetry design of the rooster, considered one of the national symbols of France, accompanied by a ribbon of text reading “Quand ce coq chante, mon amour finira“ (When the rooster crows, my love for you will end), a phrase utilized by several artists at the turn of the century which is believed to relate to the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine by the Germans following the Franco-Prussian War.
