P40 Variable-Tilt Armchair
Twin brothers Osvaldo and Fulgenzio Borsani founded Milan-based furniture company Tecno in 1953. Trained as an architect, Osvaldo designed many of the companys most iconic pieces, including the P40 Variable-Tilt Armchair (1955). Upon the P40s launch, journalist Orio Vergani wrote, It offers its curves to be navigated in dreams, to the delights and refreshment of relaxation. It can immediately disappear, erasing all traces of momentary laziness from the home. Unfolding like a fan, this sleek form goes from completely closed to a full recline simply by moving the two stop pins along the 18 positioning holes in the side plate. In addition, its headrest moves up and down, the flexible rubber arms fold away, and it even has a flip-out leg rest with extendable metal footrest. The result is a comfortable lounge chair that delivers so many possible positions that even Tecno couldnt confirm the total number. Made in Italy.
