A glorious and important S¸e et Mare/Compagnie des Arts FranÁais black lacquered French Art Deco desk with fabulous hand cast bronze legs and drawer pulls with heavy nickel plating, black leather desk top and six hidden leather lined drawers.

This desk is a very significant similar piece curated by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1925 at the Paris World Exhibition.
S¸e et Mare‚ pavilion, Musée d‚ôArt Contemporain (Museum of Contemporary Art), at the 1925 exposition was remarkable for its lavish interior‚îextravagant patterning, abundance of color, and bold designs that looked back to the Louis XV style for inspiration. The centerpiece of its main salon was an ebony and gilt-bronze desk suite, which was among the most important works that curator Joseph Breck purchased for the Metropolitan at the fair. See featured in “Authentic Art Deco Interiors,” from the 1925 Paris Exhibition. More referenced information available by request.

S¸e et Mare worked for the elite. They were commissioned for many projects, among them the French Embassy in Warsaw and the Embassy of France in Washington, DC. Hollywood royalty, Jean Patous mansion, the Grand Salon for the ocean liner Ile de France and the staterooms for the steamship Paris were their favored customers. Favored current collectors to include Karl Lagerfeld and Courtney Love. Offered by Moxie
