Teak Root Pedestal Table with Glass Top
This pedestal was cut from a old Teak stump and root. The table top is cut from the root and bottom was the stump of the tree. The tree was harvested in the early 20th Century and the stump left in the ground; it was considered of little value. Since Teak wood is naturally resistant to moisture and insects, it can survive in the ground for up to 200 years with little decay. Using modern equipment, these stumps can now sometimes be pulled out of the ground, cleaned dried and used in wood-carving and furniture-making. This root-table is from Northern Thailand.
