The Clarendon chimneypiece
Flora, the goddess of flowers, is the theme of this chimneypiece, of late 18th century Neo-classical design. The elegant moulded tiered shelf with dentil decoration, the frieze beautifully carved with a continuous band of foliate swags of flowers upheld by ribbons and centred with flower decorated paterae. The pilaster jambs are decorated with tied ribbons from which fall inverted flowers, the corner blocks with Honeysuckle flowers. The white marble offset by the warm sienna on the in grounds and out grounds.
