Provenance: William Dall, 3rd (1753-1829) Dall was a patriot and sympathizer with Samuel Adamsparty in the American Revolution. Around the time of the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, he was sent through the lines with dispatches for the Connecticut patriots, and was wounded in the foot. During his convalescence he became a writing master at Yale College. Upon returning to Boston, he became a successful merchant. In 1797 Dall was given a silver teapot by Paul Revere which now resides in The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, see Patricia E. Kane, Colonial Massachusetts Silversmiths and Jewelers, pages 838-9.
